Renowned Ghanaian actress Adwoa Smart, born Belinda Naa Ode Oku, has opened up about the painful experiences of bullying that led her to quit school. Best known for her iconic role in the popular Akan Drama TV series “Obra,” Adwoa Smart recently shared how relentless teasing about her physical appearance caused her to abandon her education.
In a candid interview, the actress revealed, “I stopped going to school because my mates made fun of me because of my size… It became so unbearable that I lost all interest in attending school and eventually dropped out.”
Expressing frustration over how the situation was handled, Adwoa Smart criticized the lack of support from school authorities during that difficult period. “The teachers didn’t do anything to help me. They were supposed to protect me, but they just ignored what was happening.”
When asked why she didn’t attempt to transfer to another school, she explained, “I was too young to make that decision on my own… If it had happened now, I would have continued my education.”
Despite the challenges she faced in her youth, Adwoa Smart has overcome the adversity to become a celebrated figure in Ghana’s entertainment industry. Her journey serves as a reminder of the long-lasting effects bullying can have on young people and underscores the importance of fostering supportive and inclusive school environments.
