“Bawumia is ready any day, so what is holding Mahama back?” – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has thrown down the gauntlet, urging former President John Dramani Mahama to engage in a public debate with Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, questioning why Mahama appears hesitant to do so.

Speaking during his tour of the Northern Region, President Akufo-Addo praised Dr. Bawumia as a capable and trustworthy leader with a clear vision. He stressed that Ghanaians deserve to hear both Mahama and Bawumia present their ideas and policies, which would allow voters to make an informed choice ahead of the upcoming elections.

According to Akufo-Addo, Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated his leadership abilities consistently over time. He argued that a debate between the two would provide an opportunity for Ghanaians to evaluate their respective plans for the country’s future.

The President also criticized Mahama, suggesting that the former leader is avoiding a debate because he may not be able to match Bawumia’s arguments and track record. Akufo-Addo noted that Mahama’s reluctance denies Ghanaians the chance to engage in a transparent discussion about key national issues.

He emphasized that such an exchange is vital for democracy, urging Mahama to face Bawumia in a debate. Akufo-Addo stressed that Ghanaians deserve to hear both sides to make an informed decision.

“Bawumia is someone who can be trusted, clear-minded, and reliable, which is why many Ghanaians are calling for a debate between him and John Mahama. Why is Mahama avoiding this? Bawumia is ready any day, so what is holding Mahama back?” Akufo-Addo questioned.

He further pointed out that key issues, like the future of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, need to be clarified. “Mr. Mahama, what is your stance on Free SHS? Will you maintain or cancel it? Ghanaians deserve a straightforward answer,” he stated.

The President concluded by insisting that no candidate should be considered for the presidency without openly discussing their positions on critical national policies. He reiterated that a public debate is an essential tool for holding candidates accountable to the people.
