Bawumia’s government to initiate “Operation Olympics Glory ”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the National Patriotic Party, has already set his sights on bringing Ghana to Olympic gold at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Ghana has only ever won five medals in the Olympics, and that was only in the 4th Republic at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, despite the country’s enormous potential in a wide range of sports.

Dr. Bawumia has declared comprehensive development plans by his future government, including sustainable funding, development programs, and an Olympics-specific program, in an effort to stop this trend and realise Ghana’s enormous sporting potential.

During his speech at the NPP Manifesto launch on Sunday in Takoradi, Dr. Bawumia declared that his administration will “start an Operation Olympics Glory” campaign by allocating resources towards the preparation and readiness of athletes to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA”

Dr. Bawumia disclosed that his government will target particular sports for medals “where necessary” as part of the Operation Olympics Glory Program. Dr. Bawumia also announced the creation of the Ghana School Sports Secretariat, a special purpose organisation tasked with promoting the sustainable growth of grassroots sports through schooling, in partnership with organisations like the Ghana Education Service and sports federations, as part of a larger vision for sports development.
