The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has announced that Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku will miss the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier against Niger due to injuries.
Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah, who were doubtful for Ghana’s previous match against Angola, have been ruled out following post-match medical evaluations, which confirmed their unfitness for selection. Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku sustained injuries during the game against Angola. Ayew managed to complete the match, but MRI scans conducted in Accra later revealed a significant knee issue. Issahaku, however, was substituted in the first half due to his injury.
Dr. Prince Pambo, the Black Stars’ medical team head, held discussions with Leicester City’s medical staff regarding Ayew and Issahaku. Both players are set to return to their respective clubs on Sunday to begin rehabilitation.
Ghana’s AFCON hopes were dashed following a 1-1 draw with Angola on Friday, leaving the Black Stars at the bottom of Group F with three points after five games. The result officially rules Ghana out of the 2025 tournament, marking the country’s first absence from AFCON in over two decades.
Despite the match against Niger being inconsequential, the Black Stars will proceed with their final training session on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
