Morocco’s Brahim Díaz claimed the top scorer crown in the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a dazzling hat-trick in Morocco’s dominant 7-0 victory over Lesotho on the final matchday.
The 25-year-old Real Madrid forward surged past Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, who had led the scoring chart with six goals until Matchday 5. Díaz’s standout performance at the Stade d’Honneur d’Oujda thrilled the home fans, as he netted three goals in the first half to seal a remarkable qualifying campaign for Morocco.
Díaz’s goals capped an impeccable run for the Atlas Lions, who topped Group B with a perfect record. Winning all six matches, Morocco boasted an impressive +24 goal difference, further solidifying their status as strong contenders for the AFCON 2025 title.
Guirassy, who had scored his sixth goal in Guinea’s crucial 1-0 win over DR Congo on Matchday 5, was unable to add to his tally in the final round against Tanzania. This opened the door for Díaz to clinch the Golden Boot with seven goals.
Meanwhile, the battle for third place in the scoring charts ended in a tie, with Algeria’s Amine Gouiri, Zambia’s Kingsley Musonda, and Egypt’s Trezeguet each finishing on four goals.
As Morocco prepares to host the tournament, Díaz’s stellar form highlights the team’s attacking strength and cements their reputation as one of the favorites for the title. His performance in the qualifiers not only earned individual accolades but also underscored Morocco’s readiness to shine on home soil.
