The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially initiated the 2024 Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). In a statement released on Monday, October 28, GES reported that the selection process is currently underway, with approximately 94 percent, equating to 521,088 students, already placed in various schools. From the 563,339 results submitted by WAEC, GES confirmed that 553,155 candidates were eligible for school placement.
Among these qualified candidates, 447,698, or 80.93%, received automatic placements in one of their chosen schools. However, 104,918 candidates who were qualified could not be assigned to any of their preferred schools. Of those, 73,390—representing 13.27%—were offered placements in schools similar to their original selections.Students now have the option to accept or decline the recommended schools. Those who choose to reject their placements can select an institution of their choice through the Self-placement platform.
GES also urged parents and guardians to be wary of individuals soliciting money for school placements, emphasizing that all placements should be conducted through official channels. Orientation for the newly placed students is set to begin on October 30, with academic activities starting on November 7, 2024.
