According to local media reports, the Black Stars of Ghana will face Sudan at the Cape Coast Stadium. This venue change follows the disqualification of the Baba Yara Stadium from hosting Category C matches due to its deteriorating pitch. Last weekend, officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) visited Ghana to assess both the Accra and Cape Coast stadiums as potential alternatives. The inspection was requested by the Ministry of Sports to avoid the embarrassment of having no approved venue for upcoming international fixtures.
Following CAF’s assessment, it has been confirmed that Ghana’s third match in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Sudan’s Falcons will be held at Cape Coast Stadium. Ghana will play the first leg on Friday, October 11, before traveling to Libya for the return leg at the Martyrs of February Stadium on Monday, October 14.
The Black Stars, who are seeking their fifth AFCON title, have yet to claim a victory in the qualifiers. Otto Addo’s team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Angola at Baba Yara Stadium and drew 1-1 with Niger in Berkane. With just one point from two games, Ghana currently sits third in Group F.
During a recent session with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif and National Sports Authority (NSA) Board Chairman Seth Panwum assured the public that the game against Sudan would indeed be hosted in Ghana.
