A cholera outbreak in Kasoa has claimed five lives, with 30 additional patients currently receiving treatment at the Kasoa Polyclinic and Mother and Child Hospital. Municipal Chief Executive for Awutu Senya East, Anita Love Obo Amissah, reported that three of the deceased passed away on Thursday, October 31, followed by two more deaths on Friday afternoon, raising the death toll to five.
The MCE expressed concern over the spread of the outbreak and urged Kasoa residents to take preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a clean environment and consuming safe food. She noted that the outbreak has affected other nearby constituencies, with referrals coming from the Awutu Senya West and Gomoa East Districts, stressing the need for a collaborative response to control the disease.
Awutu Senya East Municipal Environmental Officer Godson Lodo also provided guidelines to curb the outbreak, particularly targeting market vendors and food sellers. Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and are working with local leaders to raise awareness about sanitation and safe food practices in the community.
