The National Labour Commission (NLC) has successfully obtained a court order halting the strike action by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).
CLOGSAG initiated the strike after the government failed to meet a deadline of October 31 to address their demands, particularly concerning the delayed finalization of a new salary structure for staff, which was intended to take effect from January 1, 2025. The association had previously issued a notice on October 23, 2024, expressing frustration over the continued delay in resolving the issue.
Despite several meetings, CLOGSAG claimed that the government had yet to present a formal offer. However, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission disputed this, stating that the association had not responded to the government’s proposed salary structure.
In response, the NLC filed an application on November 7 at the Accra High Court, seeking an interim injunction to stop the strike. After reviewing the case, the court granted the injunction for a period of 10 days, with instructions that the NLC would need to return to court with further notice after the 10-day period expires.
