According to the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), its proposed self-financing scheme would be implemented when the new cocoa crop season, which begins tomorrow, September 10, 2024, opens. In order to boost the cocoa industry, the government would look for outside funding, according to Finance Minister Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam.
Due to this year’s unusually long dry spell, COCOBOD Chief Executive Joseph Boahen Aidoo revealed that the objective for the upcoming season has been revised downward by 19.8 percent. He remembered that most farmers in the Bono and Western North regions have struggled to have a fruitful planting season due to unfavourable weather conditions.
According to Mr. Boahen Aidoo, plans are in place to produce more than 200,000 metric tonnes of cocoa beans in order to increase output within the next six years. He gave his word that steps have been taken to replace the elderly trees that aren’t able to provide fruit. He believes that all of the suggested actions will, in the medium run, produce favourable outcomes.
