Joana Gyan Cudjoe, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Amenfi Central, recently shared insights into the factors behind her recent legal success, as a Sekondi High Court lifted an injunction that had temporarily barred her from running.
In an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem morning show, Mrs. Cudjoe attributed her success to her team’s unity and dedication. “The magic that worked for me was that the entire team worked together,” she remarked, emphasizing the strength of collaboration.
She highlighted the pivotal role of her legal team, composed of three lawyers who handled the intense court proceedings. “The legal team did well, especially since there were heated arguments in court, which led to the court lifting the injunction,” she explained. When additional support was needed, more lawyers joined to reinforce her defense.
Mrs. Cudjoe also credited her constituents for their unwavering support, stating, “I didn’t vote for myself, the constituents did. The court even delayed, but we just did the right thing in court.” Despite the legal issues, she asserted that they did not impact her campaign negatively, affirming her strong rapport with Amenfi Central voters and their loyalty to the NDC.
According to Cudjoe, her connection with the constituency and her longstanding work for the NDC made her the ideal candidate in the eyes of the voters. “I have worked for the NDC right from day one, and I have done a lot of business for the party. We have never stopped campaigning, not even for a moment,” she said.
The injunction had been imposed after dissatisfied party members challenged her initial victory in the NDC’s May 2023 primaries, prompting the court order. In response, the NDC’s Functional Executive Committee annulled the May results and organized fresh primaries on September 8, 2024, which Cudjoe won again. His Lordship George K. Gyan-Kontoh ultimately ruled on Monday, November 11, 2024, that the grounds for the initial injunction were no longer relevant, as the NDC had taken corrective action by holding new elections.
