Nigerian music star David Adeleke, known globally as Davido, has broken new ground on TikTok, setting a record for the highest viewership on a live stream in Africa.
On October 30, Davido hosted a session alongside popular TikTok influencers Peller, Jarvis, and Jo Blaq, drawing a total of 389,800 viewers – an unprecedented number for any live stream on the platform in the region. At its peak, the stream had over 164,000 simultaneous viewers.
Fans enthusiastically showed their support, gifting Davido 377 lion gifts, each valued at $400, bringing the total to around $153,000. In a generous gesture, Davido announced that the proceeds would be shared with his co-hosts, crediting their joint effort in making the event memorable.
Previously, influencer Peller held the record for the most-watched TikTok live stream in Africa, set during a session with artist Tiwa Savage. Davido’s new record arrives just ahead of the anticipated release of his latest single, “Awuke.”
