Samuel Apea-Danquah, popularly known as “Yellow Ghana,” has taken legal action against the Electoral Commission (EC) after being disqualified from the 2024 presidential race. Apea-Danquah, along with 10 other candidates, was disqualified by the EC due to alleged irregularities in their nomination forms.
In a motion filed on Thursday, October 10, Apea-Danquah is seeking a court order (certiorari) to reverse the EC decision. Additionally, he is requesting an order of mandamus to compel the EC to reinstate him as a valid presidential candidate for the upcoming general elections.
Apea-Danquah’s legal move comes amid a wave of disqualification challenges. Bernard Anbataayela Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), and Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, the flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), have also filed lawsuits against the EC, contesting their disqualification from the race.
These legal actions highlight mounting frustration among disqualified candidates, as they push back against the EC decision ahead of the crucial 2024 elections.
