EC explains decision to replace Yasarko Press for making voting papers.

The Electoral Commission has announced that Yasarko Press, one of the printing firms contracted to produce ballot papers for the upcoming 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections, will no longer be handling ballot printing for this election.

Yasarko Press had initially been assigned to print ballot papers for the Oti and Western North regions. However, the Commission reported that earlier this week, Yasarko Press informed them of a malfunction in one of their critical printing machines. Both parties then agreed that Yasarko should step down from its role in the 2024 ballot printing process.

The Commission clarified that Yasarko Press has been a trusted partner, printing ballot papers since 1998, countering recent claims from the National Democratic Congress’ Director of Elections and Information Technology that questioned Yasarko’s capacity. The Commission stated, “This speculation is unfounded.”

To address the change, the Electoral Commission has reallocated printing duties for the Oti and Western North regions’ ballot papers to Buck Press and Acts Commercials, respectively. The Commission assured that both of these firms have the necessary expertise to meet the requirements and that the adjustment will not disrupt the ballot production schedule.

All political parties and independent candidates in the 2024 General Election have been notified of this update.
