The Republic of Ecuador has officially suspended its recognition of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), a separatist entity it initially acknowledged in 1983, and later established an embassy for in 2009.
Ecuador’s Foreign Minister, Gabriela Sommerfeld, communicated this decision to her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, during a recent phone call. A formal notification has also been sent to the SADR’s representation in Quito.
This development is part of ongoing efforts led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to assert Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara, emphasizing the Autonomy Plan as the sole framework for resolving the regional dispute. Ecuador’s suspension of recognition signifies a new chapter in its diplomatic relations with the Kingdom of Morocco.
