Election Watch Ghana, a pressure group, has accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana of awarding contracts for the printing of ballots and notices of polls for the upcoming December 7 elections to Assembly Press and Buck Press. The group claims this decision reflects a serious conflict of interest, as the heads of both printing firms are politically exposed.
In a press release dated Wednesday, October 9, Election Watch Ghana stated, “The EC’s intention to award ballot printing and notices to Assembly Press, managed by David Asante, and Buck Press, managed by Mr. Buckman, reeks of cronyism and corruption.” They emphasized that this blatant conflict of interest undermines the independence of the EC.
The statement, signed by convenors Mark Ewusi Arkoh and Jude Balma, also criticized the EC for its recent Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, labeling it “a festival of corruption and collusion between EC officials and self-serving politicians.” The group argued that such actions have eroded public trust and compromised the integrity of Ghana’s electoral process.
Election Watch Ghana has vowed to take all necessary measures to ensure the credibility of the electoral register for the upcoming general elections. They are demanding the establishment of a multi-party team of auditors to verify the integrity of the register.
