Enzo Maresca has been named Barclays Manager of the Month for September 2024, marking a significant achievement in just his second month as Chelsea’s head coach.
Maresca guided Chelsea through an unbeaten run in September, with the Blues securing three victories and one draw. The month began with a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace, followed by impressive back-to-back away wins over AFC Bournemouth and West Ham United. Chelsea then capped off the month with a 4-2 triumph over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Chelsea’s attack flourished under Maresca, scoring a league-high nine goals during the month. Reflecting on the recognition, Maresca credited the success to the entire club, emphasizing the collective effort. “We had a fantastic month,” Maresca remarked. “It’s never about one person. I’m fortunate to have a great staff supporting me, and we constantly look for ways to improve, learning from different football cultures.”
This accolade makes Maresca the first Chelsea manager to win the award since Thomas Tuchel in October 2021.
The 44-year-old beat strong competition from a shortlist that included Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery, Marco Silva, and Arne Slot. The award was decided by a combination of public votes and input from a panel of football experts.
Maresca’s win coincides with a Chelsea double, as Cole Palmer was also honored, securing the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for September.
