Former England striker and BBC Match of the Day pundit Gary Lineker has hailed Ghanaian winger Fatawu Issahaku as a standout talent after his impressive performance helped Leicester City overturn a 2-0 deficit to beat Southampton 3-2 in their Premier League clash on Saturday.
Issahaku came off the bench for Leicester City when they were trailing 2-0 at Saint Mary’s Stadium. His impact was immediate—just five minutes after his introduction, he assisted Facundo Buonanotte, who scored to pull one back for the Foxes. Issahaku continued to trouble Southampton’s defense and played a pivotal role in winning a penalty, which Jamie Vardy converted to level the score.
The Ghanaian winger came close to adding a goal of his own when his curled shot hit the woodwork, highlighting his dangerous attacking presence.
Gary Lineker, a long-time Leicester fan, couldn’t hide his admiration for Issahaku’s performance. Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, he said, “As a Leicester fan, every time I see the team sheet, I wonder why Fatawu isn’t starting. This kid is something special.”
Former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given also praised Issahaku, emphasizing his game-changing contribution. “He’s a special talent. Leicester were two goals down when he came on, and in just 31 minutes, he had more touches in the opposition’s box than most. If Steve [Leicester’s coach] doesn’t start him soon, I’m sure Issahaku won’t be too pleased. He’s simply brilliant,” Given said.
Issahaku’s stunning display off the bench has sparked discussions about his potential to become a regular starter for Leicester City, with fans and pundits alike acknowledging his extraordinary talent.
