Sebastian Munoz, a striker for Atletico Awajun, appeared to have urinated during a game, thus he got his marching orders in the most bizarre and contentious way possible. In the match between Awajun and Cantorcillo FC, Munoz received a red card because it appeared he had urinated near the corner of the pitch while waiting for the custodian for Cantorcillo FC to receive medical attention.
Although he had his back to the goal mouth action, the Cantorcillo players noticed his actions and informed the referee. There were no fans in the area of the arena that Munoz faced. After shocking Munoz with a straight red card, the referee allowed Awajun to finish the game with 10 men on the field despite Munoz’s futile protests of innocence.
Atletico Awajun is a team that competes in the Copa Peru playoffs and plays in the third level in Peru. As of this writing, no comments had been made by Peruvian football authorities regarding the matter that has garnered international notice. Munoz is not the first football player, though, to be thrown off for urinating during a game; in a 2017 National League North game, Salford goalie Max Crocombe was sent off for the same offence.
