The Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante-Twum, has disclosed that Otto Addo and his Black Stars backroom staff are owed several months of unpaid salaries.
Speaking in an interview with Joy FM, Asante-Twum clarified that the payment of the technical team’s salaries is the responsibility of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, not the GFA.
“There are some outstanding salaries. I’m not certain of the exact duration, but we owe Otto Addo and his backroom staff a few months,” he stated. “This falls under the Ministry’s jurisdiction, so I cannot speak on their behalf, but I know there are arrears.”
Asante-Twum emphasized the necessity of close collaboration with the Ministry, especially when it comes to decisions that may lead to contract terminations or severance payments.
“It’s crucial to consult the Ministry in such cases because, if the coach is dismissed and there’s the issue of paying him off, that responsibility lies with the Ministry and not the GFA,” he explained.
This revelation comes amidst growing scrutiny of Otto Addo’s tenure following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The situation raises further concerns about the management and financial commitments surrounding the Black Stars’ technical team.
