The High Court in Accra has adjourned to October 21 to deliver a ruling on a motion filed by Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), who is challenging the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify him from the 2024 presidential election.
The EC disqualified Mornah along with 10 other candidates due to errors in their nomination forms, which they did not rectify. Mornah, one of three individuals suing the EC, claims that the commission violated constitutional provisions by not allowing him the chance to correct these errors. In response, the EC contends that while they highlighted some errors, they did not communicate those considered criminal in nature to the aspirants.
In High court on Wednesday, Mornah’s legal team argued that the EC exceeded its discretionary powers. His lawyer, Harold Atuguba, requested that the commission suspend all electoral activities related to the presidential election until the court reaches a decision.
