An Accra High Court is scheduled to rule on the interlocutory injunction filed by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Amenfi Central Constituency, Joana Gyan Cudjoe, against the Electoral Commission (EC) on October 31, 2024.
On October 17, 2024, Madam Joana Gyan Cudjoe and the NDC sought the injunction to stop the EC from printing the Notice of Poll and ballot papers for the Amenfi Central seat, following her disqualification by the EC.
During a hearing on Thursday, October 24, Lawyer Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, representing Madam Gyan Cudjoe, moved the motion to prevent the EC from proceeding with the printing. However, the EC’s lawyer opposed the injunction application.
The presiding judge then instructed both lawyers to agree on a date for the ruling. In the discussion, Lawyer Tamakloe proposed October 31, which both parties ultimately accepted for the court’s decision on the interlocutory injunction against the EC.
The plaintiffs assert that the injunction is essential to halt the electoral process in the constituency until the court addresses a substantive legal matter regarding the elections. According to the documents filed in court, they are requesting that the EC refrain from any further actions until all legal issues are thoroughly resolved.
