The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has escalated further, with reports from Gaza’s Hamas-run health ministry stating that at least 87 people were killed and more than 40 injured in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Beit Lahia. The area targeted was a residential neighborhood, and rescue efforts are still underway as some victims remain trapped under rubble.
This attack comes amid Israel’s intense military operations in northern Gaza, aimed at preventing Hamas fighters from regrouping. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) described the strike as a precision attack on a Hamas target, though they are investigating the reported casualties.
The humanitarian crisis in Gaza continues to worsen, with the United Nations (UN) calling for an end to the conflict. UN officials have condemned the attacks on civilians, describing the situation as a “nightmare” and urging an immediate halt to the violence. Humanitarian access to Gaza remains severely limited, with aid deliveries declining sharply since the start of the conflict.
In parallel, fighting has intensified between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon, as Israeli airstrikes targeted Hezbollah positions in Beirut. Both Hezbollah and Hamas are backed by Iran, and Hezbollah has launched attacks on northern Israel in solidarity with Hamas. Casualties on both sides continue to rise as the conflict spreads beyond Gaza.
The situation remains fluid, with calls from international bodies for an immediate ceasefire to allow for humanitarian aid and to protect civilians. However, Israel remains determined to eliminate Hamas, following the militant group’s deadly October 7 attacks on Israeli civilians.
