The remains of Issa Hayatou’s, who served as president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), have arrived in Cameroon for his last resting place. On Thursday, August 8, 2024, in Paris, Hayatou, who temporarily held the position of interim FIFA president after the 2015 corruption crisis, departed from this life. In order to respect the memory of the former African football leader, a sizable gathering of mourners attended a special reception and prayer service held at Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport.
Prominent football figures, such as Ahmad Ahmad, Hayatou’s successor, and his close buddy Constant Omari, were present. Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF currently, was also present. The head of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), Samuel Eto’o, showed his respects, having previously lauded Hayatou’s contributions to the game in Africa. Over the course of her nearly three-decade tenure, Hayatou had a profound influence on sport throughout the continent.
