Prince Kofi Kludjeson, the Founder of Have Technical Institute in the Afadzato South District of the Volta Region, has urged the government to prioritize Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), with a focus on integrating Information Technology (IT). Speaking to Adom News, Mr. Kludjeson highlighted TVET’s potential to drive national development and lower the country’s unemployment rate.
His comments were made during Have Technical Institute’s 40th anniversary celebration, held under the theme “Quality Technical and Vocational Education Training: A Catalyst to Ghana’s Development.”
The school’s Principal, Enos Darlyn Akpah, also appealed for support from NGOs and philanthropists to address infrastructure deficits hindering the quality of education at the institute. Established in 1984, Have Technical Institute faces pressing challenges with facilities, which impact the learning environment.
One of the most urgent needs is for a new dining hall complex. The current dining hall, which also serves as an assembly hall and event venue, is unable to accommodate the growing student population of 1,878, comprising 385 girls and 1,493 boys. Overcrowding, discomfort, and a lack of space are common challenges for students using this multipurpose facility.
Despite these infrastructure hurdles, the institute has built a strong reputation, consistently achieving 100% pass rates in multiple technical trades. “Universities and higher learning institutions actively seek our graduates due to their strong academic performance and skills,” Mr. Akpah said, underscoring the institute’s impact on student achievement.
Mr. Akpah also shared that Have Technical Institute has introduced two programs under a voucher scheme aimed at skill development and employment for disadvantaged groups in Have and neighboring communities.
