Jospong Group and Uasin Gishu County to improve sanitation services in Kenya.

In a significant step toward addressing Kenya’s sanitation crisis, Uasin Gishu County has partnered with the Jospong Group of Companies to transform waste management and promote public health.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, officials from Jospong Group and the government of Uasin Gishu County, located in Eldoret, Kenya, formalized their collaboration with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in Accra, Ghana.

This agreement leverages the expertise of Jospong Group in waste management to tackle critical sanitation challenges in the region.

Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim of Uasin Gishu County expressed optimism about the partnership’s potential to improve sanitation and generate employment opportunities for Kenyans.

“This initiative will not only address sanitation issues but also provide much-needed jobs for our people,” Dr. Chelilim remarked.

The partnership is designed to enhance key aspects of sanitation, offering a dual benefit of effective waste management and job creation for thousands of residents.

Dr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, led the discussions that culminated in the agreement.

Dr. Chelilim emphasized the critical role of proper waste management in protecting public health and preserving the environment, commending Jospong Group for its innovative and sustainable solutions.

“This collaboration marks a major milestone in advancing sustainable waste management practices that will significantly impact our community,” he added.

The partnership between Uasin Gishu County and the Jospong Group of Companies will also foster knowledge exchange and capacity development between the two organizations.

As part of the collaboration, a delegation from Uasin Gishu County embarked on a two-day tour of Jospong Group’s facilities in Ghana to observe innovative waste management practices and sanitation solutions.

The tour began on Thursday, November 21, 2024, with visits to the Universal Plastic Products and Recycling Limited (UPPR), the Zoomlion Workshop, and the Transfer Station at Abokobi.

On Friday, November 22, 2024, the delegation explored the Accra Compost and Recycling Plant (ACRP), the JA Plant Pool, and the Sewerage Systems Wastewater Plant to gain deeper insights into efficient waste processing and recycling techniques.

The visit culminated on Saturday, November 23, 2024, with stops at Metro TV and the Kpone Landfills, where they observed state-of-the-art waste management strategies in action.

This partnership signifies a major stride in tackling Kenya’s sanitation issues by utilizing Jospong Group’s expertise to build a cleaner, healthier future for countless communities in Uasin Gishu County.

In June this year, a prominent delegation from Kenya, which included members of the Council of Governors, City Managers, and technical experts, visited the Jospong Group’s facilities in Accra and Kumasi.

During the tour, the delegation commended the Jospong Group for its pioneering waste management and treatment methods, particularly lauding the design and success of the waste and sanitation module under the Youth Employment Agency. This collaborative project, in partnership with the government, showcased innovative solutions for waste management.

The visit highlighted the Jospong Group’s expertise in creating sustainable waste management systems, sparking discussions about future collaborations and the potential for knowledge sharing between Ghana and Kenya.
