The Koforidua Library Youth Engagement Center (YEC) has formally inaugurated the second iteration of its Youth Engagement Center Advisory Board (YECAB) in an effort to improve the Center’s functioning. Reopened in 2022, the Koforidua Library is one of the first ten Youth Engagement Centers in the nation, having been established by the Ghana Library Authority in collaboration with UNICEF. The Authority increased the project by establishing eight more centers in 2024 in response to the success of previous ones, with the goal of advancing youth-focused activities across the country.
Coordinators oversee each Youth Engagement Center, with the assistance of a dynamic staff of ten young people, ages 14 to 24. These young people are chosen, and they spend a one-year term contributing to the Center’s operations and providing guidance to other young people in the community.
The Youth Engagement Centre Advisory Board consists of young people from various backgrounds who come together to discuss community issues, recommend solutions, advocate for the needs of the youth, and serve as ambassadors for their peers.
Mr. Evans Korletey-Tene, the Ghana Library Authority’s Eastern Regional Director, emphasized during the inaugural ceremony the vital role youths play in determining the direction of the country’s development agenda. He acknowledged the new board members as important contributors to tackling issues pertaining to youth and assured them of the Authority’s dedication to providing them with support through a range of programs and projects.
The newly inducted members of the Advisory Board include Ms. Emmanuella Amoako Kwatia, Mr. Godwin Ansah, Ms. Woyram Ametefe, Mr. Robert Mawuko, Ms. Immaculate Lokko, Mr. Nicholas Boateng, Ms. Jemima Datsa, Mr. Vans Tormekpey, Mr. Christian Anim, and Ms. Betty Agyei.
