“Bawumia hasn’t lobbied me to speak for him; I have strong faith in his abilities” – Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has dismissed claims that Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia sought his endorsement for the 2024 elections.

Speaking to journalists on November 17, Mr. Kufuor clarified that Dr. Bawumia had not solicited his support or pressured him to publicly endorse his candidacy.

When asked why he believes Dr. Bawumia is the right leader for Ghana, the former President lauded the Vice President’s impressive credentials and contributions to the nation’s economic policy.

“Dr. Bawumia stands out because of his strong grasp of economics and his innovative approach to governance. His track record demonstrates his ability to address Ghana’s pressing challenges,” Mr. Kufuor said.

He emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s expertise in economic management and his role in navigating complex financial issues, describing him as the ideal leader to guide Ghana through its current economic difficulties.

“Ghana needs a visionary leader with the technical know-how and experience to steer us toward stability and progress. Dr. Bawumia embodies these qualities,” he added.

Mr. Kufuor reiterated that his remarks stemmed from his own analysis of Ghana’s political landscape and his confidence in Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, not from any lobbying efforts.

“He has not asked me to speak on his behalf or sought my endorsement. My statements are based purely on my observations and belief in his capabilities,” the former President affirmed.

Mr. Kufuor’s comments come as the NPP prepares for the 2024 general elections, with Dr. Bawumia at the forefront as its presidential candidate.
