Liverpool maintained their strong start to the season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace, securing their sixth consecutive win across all competitions. However, the triumph came with concern as goalkeeper Alisson Becker was forced off late in the match due to a suspected hamstring injury.
The game’s only goal came in the first half when Diogo Jota capitalized on some slack defending from Palace, turning in a low cross from Cody Gakpo to give the visitors the lead. Liverpool dominated possession and created several chances, but were unable to extend their advantage.
Crystal Palace, struggling in the early stages of the Premier League season, had their moments but couldn’t make the most of them. Eddie Nketiah thought he had opened the scoring early, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside. Ismaila Sarr also tested Alisson with a sharp effort just before halftime.
Liverpool’s failure to find a second goal kept the match within reach for Palace, who improved in the second half. Alisson was called upon to make key saves, first denying Nketiah after a defensive lapse, and later stopping Eberechi Eze’s well-placed effort.
The Brazilian goalkeeper’s injury occurred late on as he appeared to strain his hamstring while clearing the ball. He was replaced by 22-year-old Vitezslav Jaros, making his first appearance for the club. Despite Palace pushing for a late equalizer, they were unable to seriously test the young shot-stopper, with Eze’s final attempt easily saved.
The victory propelled Liverpool four points clear at the top of the Premier League table, at least temporarily, while Palace’s struggles continued as they remain winless, with just three points from their opening seven matches, leaving them in the relegation zone.
