According to Dennis Miracles Aboagye, the spokesperson for Dr. Bawumia’s 2024 campaign team, Dr. Bawumia will only take part in the next presidential debate hosted by the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) if former President John Dramani Mahama is also in attendance. The first and second presidential debates are slated for October 22, 2024, and November 19, 2024, respectively, according to a recent announcement by the IEA.
Ahead of the polls on December 7, the IEA released a statement outlining schedules for two presidential debates, one vice-presidential debate, and five evening meetings. The scheduled date of the vice-presidential debate is November 5, 2024. Wednesday, September 18, will mark the beginning of the five evening meetings; Tuesday, October 15, is the last date.
In an interview, Mr. Aboagye highlighted that while Dr. Bawumia was keen to participate in a meaningful discussion on national concerns, he felt that M. Mahama’s attendance was essential for a thorough and impartial discussion. He emphasised that Dr. Bawumia and Mahama will face off in the December elections, thus if Dr. Bawumia’s front-runner was not present, there would be no debate.
