For a possible £50.5 million, Manchester United acquired midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Paris St-Germain. The 23-year-old international player for Uruguay has signed to a five-year deal with a one-year option to extend it. He will pay an upfront fee of £42.1 million and maybe an extra £8.4 million.
Manuel Ugarte brings the club’s total investment to just over £190 million, making him their fifth acquisition of the summer transfer window. After joining PSG from Sporting Lisbon for a reported £50.5 million, he made 37 appearances for the team in all competitions last season, helping the Parisians win their 12th Ligue 1 championship.
It is believed that PSG and Ugarte have worked out a 10% sell-on clause, and both teams have expressed their satisfaction with the arrangement in private. Hours after Scotland international Scott McTominay departed the Old Trafford club to sign with Napoli, Ugarte’s transfer to United was officially announced.
In exchange for the 27-year-old academy graduate, who made 255 appearances across all competitions and scored 29 goals, United earned a £25.7 million price and a 10% sell-on clause.
