Barcelona has announced in an official statement that young midfielder Marc Bernal will be sidelined for a year due to a serious injury. Bernal sustained the injury during a La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano in the third round, after establishing himself as a key player in Hansi Flick’s lineup.
The 17-year-old was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament, an injury that could pose long-term challenges if not properly healed. According to the club’s statement, Bernal underwent surgery on his left knee on Monday, 9th Sepetmber, 2024 and will be unable to train for the next 12 months.
Hansi Flick expressed his disappointment at the news, as he had envisioned Bernal as the future leader of Barcelona’s midfield following his impressive performances early in the season.
Unfortunately, Bernal will not be fit in time for pre-season preparations for the next campaign and will remain out of contention until his recovery is complete. The club and fans will now wait to see how the young talent manages his return to football after such a significant setback.
Get well soon, Camp.
