Michael Agyekum Addo, the visionary founder of KAMA Group of Companies, passed away on Friday, November 1, at the age of 74. Known for his significant contributions to Ghana’s pharmaceutical industry, Addo built a legacy as an accomplished entrepreneur with an expansive business footprint.
Addo’s journey began in 1983 when he opened a small pharmaceutical shop in Kumasi. By 1986, he was producing medical products from his garage, which led to the establishment of KAMA Group of Companies—a conglomerate now renowned for its numerous wholesale and retail outlets across Ghana. Over the years, he expanded his ventures, managing not only the pharmaceutical business but also a micro-finance firm, a real estate enterprise, and a multi-purpose conference center.
A champion of education, Addo founded the Kama Education Project to equip teachers with the tools to inspire entrepreneurship in young students. He also authored multiple books aimed at nurturing a can-do spirit in the next generation.
In recognition of his contributions, Addo was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2005. He furthered his academic pursuits, joining the 2022 cohort of PhD graduates from the University of Ghana.
Michael Agyekum Addo leaves behind a legacy of entrepreneurial success and a commitment to youth empowerment.
