Ghanaian actor and broadcaster Mikki Osei-Berko has hinted at a possible return to politics during an interview with Joy Prime. Speaking with host Roselyn Felli, the former Assembly Member for the Ayidiki Electoral Area in Accra shared his thoughts on pursuing a parliamentary seat, saying, “probably yes.”
Explaining his stance, Mikki criticized the current state of governance in Ghana, pointing out what he perceives as a lack of innovation. “Governance in this country has not been so creative,” he said. “They only take taxes and borrow money. I believe there are untapped opportunities that could generate revenue and support citizens through creative, business-oriented governance.”
Reflecting on his past political career, Mikki revealed that his decision to run for the Assembly was a personal and spiritual one. “I contested as an independent candidate under God’s direction. Everyone doubted my chances, but I won,” he recounted.
However, his term was cut short when an opportunity arose for him to further his education. He enrolled at the New York Film Academy to study film production, a move he believed was crucial for personal and professional growth. “Even before the term ended, I had to leave. I felt it was better to educate myself and return with more value than to stay in politics at the time,” he said.
Mikki, who has charmed audiences with his iconic roles such as Kokonsa on Radio Gold, Dada Boat, and Master Richard, remains a beloved figure in Ghana’s entertainment scene. His unique contributions to film, radio, and television continue to resonate with fans, even as he considers stepping back into public service.
