Monaco defender Mohammed Salisu has earned a spot in UEFA’s Champions League Gameweek Two Team of the Week following a standout performance. The Ghanaian made headlines by scoring his first-ever goal in the Champions League, which also marked his inaugural goal for Monaco. He found the back of the net from a corner kick with just 15 minutes left to play, igniting a thrilling finish in Zagreb.
Salisu’s goal played a pivotal role in Monaco’s comeback, allowing them to secure a hard-fought draw against Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday night. This result kept Monaco’s unbeaten streak alive in the Champions League after their impressive 2-1 victory over Barcelona in their opening match.
In recognition of his contributions, Salisu was selected as part of the central defensive duo alongside PSV’s Ryan Flamingo. The backline was completed by Atalanta’s Davide Zappacosta at left-back, Lille’s Tiago Santos at right-back, and Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez in goal.
Looking ahead, Monaco will face Rennes in their next French Ligue 1 match as they aim to keep pace with joint-leaders PSG in the title race.
