Mourinho was fined and banned for criticizing match officials in Turkey.

Jose Mourinho has been handed a one-match suspension and fined approximately £15,000 following his actions and post-game comments after Fenerbahce’s thrilling 3-2 win over Trabzonspor. The intense match, which featured late drama, ended with Sofyan Amrabat scoring a stoppage-time winner, prompting Mourinho to charge onto the pitch and attempt a celebratory knee slide.

However, Mourinho’s enthusiasm quickly turned into frustration in his post-match comments, where he criticized the officiating standards in Turkish football and questioned the impartiality of match officials. His remarks led to swift action from the Turkish Football Federation, which issued a statement noting that Mourinho’s comments were “contrary to sportsmanship, sports ethics, and fair play,” and that they “diminished the value” of football in Turkey.

The federation added that the former Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester United manager’s remarks “were aimed at discrediting or casting doubt on the impartiality of referees and other officials.”

Mourinho’s frustration stemmed largely from controversial calls, as Trabzonspor was awarded two penalties after VAR reviews, while he believed Fenerbahce should have received a penalty before Amrabat’s late goal. The incident has highlighted tensions around officiating in the Turkish league and brought fresh attention to Mourinho’s sometimes fiery touchline persona.
