Ghana Meteorological Agency Chair Warns Staff Against Joining Nationwide Strike

Isaac Amoo, the Board Chair of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMeT), has issued a stern warning to employees against participating in the organized labour Nationwide Strike scheduled for October 10. This strike aims to protest the illegal mining activities commonly referred to as galamsey.

Amoo emphasized that GMeT staff are strictly prohibited from joining the nationwide strike. He cautioned that any employee who defies this directive will be regarded as having terminated their employment. He also urged staff to refrain from being absent on the day of the planned strike, reiterating the importance of maintaining operations within the agency.

In a related development, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, the Managing Director of GIHOC Distilleries echoed Amoo’s sentiments, warning his staff against joining the strike. He highlighted that the issues raised are national concerns that do not directly impact GIHOC’s operations. Jumah made it clear that any employee who participates in the strike would face dismissal.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Medical Association (GMA) has expressed solidarity with Organized Labour’s fight against illegal mining but confirmed it will not participate in the planned strike. GMA President Dr. Frank Serebour stated that the association has not organized any industrial action and urged its members to continue providing uninterrupted medical services.

Several other health sector unions have also shown support for Organized Labour but have opted not to join the Nationwide Strike, focusing instead on maintaining their essential services.
