On September 17, 2024, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) declared that it would stage nationwide protests against the Electoral Commission (EC) for allegedly mishandling anomalies discovered in the voter registration. The party expressed its worries after claiming to have found multiple inconsistencies during the most recent voter exhibition exercise. The NDC asked for a forensic assessment of the register following a meeting with the EC to discuss these concerns, but this request was turned down.
Speaking to the media following the filing of John Mahama’s presidential candidacy papers, NDC Chairman Johnsen Aseidu Nketia declared that the party would hold statewide demonstrations. Marches to the EC’s regional offices in each of the 16 regions are anticipated from the demonstrators, and the national leadership will present a formal petition at the EC’s headquarters in Accra.
