Academic City University College has granted a $40,000 Presidential Scholarship to Anita Pokua-Denteh Rockson, a recent semi-finalist in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Rockson, a student from Wesley Girls’ Senior High School, will pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the institution.

This prestigious scholarship, which supports students with outstanding academic records, leadership skills, and a drive for societal impact, covers all four years of tuition, accommodation, meals, a laptop, monthly stipends, and transportation for students residing outside Accra.

As a leading institution focused on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and entrepreneurship, Academic City has established itself as a model for education innovation in Ghana and Africa. The university’s approach to education aims to cultivate future leaders skilled in problem-solving and innovation. This commitment to educational excellence has led to its ranking as the 15th best in Sub-Saharan Africa and 2nd in Ghana by Times Higher Education (THE).

Rockson, who is passionate about advancing Ghana’s energy sector, intends to explore alternative methods for generating electricity to reduce reliance on conventional sources. She expressed her enthusiasm for studying in Ghana, stating that gaining firsthand knowledge of local challenges is essential to creating impactful solutions that can later be adapted on a global scale. She is confident that Academic City’s resources and mentorship will equip her to realize her vision.

Commenting on the scholarship, Ms. Shannan Akosua Magee, Director of Admissions at Academic City, praised Rockson’s ambition and commitment to tackling pressing challenges in Ghana. “Out of numerous applicants, Anita distinguished herself by articulating her achievements and aspirations clearly. Her dedication to making a difference demonstrates her character and leadership potential,” Ms. Magee noted.

Magee also emphasized the university’s commitment to delivering an education that empowers students to become agents of positive change in their communities and beyond.
