Ghana head coach Otto Addo remains optimistic about the Black Stars’ chances of securing qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite a challenging start to their campaign.
Ghana has faced setbacks, including a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium and a 1-1 draw against Niger. These results have left the Black Stars sitting third in their group with just a single point, raising the stakes for upcoming fixtures.
Nevertheless, Addo is confident that his squad has the quality and determination needed to turn things around and clinch a spot in the tournament, set to take place in Morocco.
“Surely it’s [qualification] possible. Everybody who can calculate knows it’s possible,” Otto Addo stated as captured by journalist Micky Jnr on the sidelines of the ongoing CAF Coaches Symposium in Ivory Coast
“We have the advantage, now that we are playing against Sudan front and back, a direct and concrete team, surely we have to beat them.”
“These are small finals, I had a small final myself when we were successful against Nigeria.
“I think even though we started badly but Afcon qualification games we still have a bit chance to qualify when we get at least 4 out of the 2 games, yes it’s possible,” he added.
Ghana will face Sudan in a crucial doubleheader in October. The Black Stars will first host the Falcons at a yet-to-be-confirmed venue before travelling for the return leg at Al-Merrikh Stadium.
