Top Nigerian pastor apologises for claiming people who don’t pay tithe won’t make Heaven

Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has issued an apology for his previous statement suggesting that Christians who do not pay tithes will not enter heaven. His original comment, which linked tithe payment to salvation, sparked significant backlash on social media.

Speaking to his congregation on Thursday, October 3, Adeboye clarified the issue and expressed regret for the misunderstanding. He acknowledged that his earlier statement, made during a youth gathering at the RCCG Youth Convention, was incorrect.

Pastor Adeboye went on to emphasize that, according to the Bible, living a life of holiness and peace, rather than tithe payment, is essential for entry into heaven. His apology aimed to set the record straight and address the concerns raised by the public.

“I apologise for saying ‘If you don’t pay tithe, you might not make it to heaven.’ I’m sorry, that’s wrong, and it’s not in the Bible. What the Bible says is ‘Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see God. It is possible to be right and wrong at the same time”, he stated.
