Real Madrid’s scheduled La Liga clash with Valencia this Saturday has been postponed due to severe flash floods that have devastated parts of Spain. In response to the torrential rains in the Valencia region, which have tragically resulted in the deaths of at least 95 people and left many others missing, the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has decided to postpone all matches in the affected areas.
Other fixtures impacted by this decision include Villarreal’s La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano, as well as three Segunda Division games: Castellon vs. RC Ferrol, CD Eldense vs. SD Huesca, and Malaga’s away game at Levante. In Liga F, Spain’s women’s top division, Valencia’s fixture against Deportivo La Coruna and Real Madrid’s match with Levante have also been postponed.
The RFEF received requests from La Liga, Liga F, and the involved clubs to postpone all professional games in the region. Additionally, several Copa del Rey matches, including Valencia’s visit to Parla Escuela, had already been rescheduled in light of the flooding.
In solidarity, a minute of silence will be observed across matches held this weekend to honor the memory of those affected, particularly the families of those who have lost their lives in the disaster.
