RC Lens which plays in French Ligue 1 has recently announced that midfielder Salis Abdul Samed will spend the rest of the season on loan playing for English Sky Bet Championship in Sunderland AFC. Though English clubs were after him, Abdul Samed insisted on shifting to France with any French club after the worl cups.
With Lens since June 2022 for a €5M fee and having signed a contract lasting until 2027, Abdul Samed netted a goal in his first ever game in Lens in August 2022. In the last one season he has played 39 matches including the champions league and the Europa league. However he was not so favourite with Lens new manager Will Still during the summer transfer season.
Other clubs that had been linked to Abdul Samed included FC Nantes, Stade Brestois, and AS Saint-Étienne but finally it was Sunderland which sealed the deal when the previous manager of Lorient, Régis Le Bris joined Sunderland fetching Abdul Samed alongside the deadline day. A feature that distinguishes the contemporary contract from classic types of leasing is the absence of the permanent transfer as the option for a loan agreement.
Abdul Samed has completed his medicals in France and will soon travel to England to join his new squad.
Currently valued at €8 million by Transfermarkt, Abdul Samed has been omitted from the Black Stars squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger.
