90% of SHS placement issues are addressed.

The Ministry of Education’s Resolution Centre, established to assist Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates with their senior high school (SHS) placement issues, has successfully resolved 90% of the complaints it has received so far.

Speaking with Graphic Online, Nana Afrah Sika Mensah, Deputy Coordinator of the Free SHS Secretariat, shared that the centre has been addressing a range of concerns, including assigning candidates initially unplaced, facilitating school changes, and adjusting placement statuses.

These remarks were made on Monday during an interview with the Daily Graphic at the National Resolution Centre, hosted at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall in Accra.

Assisting Families with SHS Placement

Since last Monday, parents and students have been visiting the SHS Placement National Resolution Centre to seek prompt assistance with placement-related concerns, including self-placement, school transfers, day-to-boarding status changes, and program adjustments.

The centre has been busy with staff from the Free SHS Secretariat readily available to help families resolve these concerns. For security, police officers are stationed at the venue to maintain order. Each day, personnel guide parents and students on how to handle their placement issues, with Nana Mensah commending the cooperative attitude shown by families during the process.

“Everything has gone smoothly so far,” she said. “We’ve managed to resolve around 90% of the cases that have been brought to us.” She noted that additional staff from the secretariat are also working behind the scenes to handle any emerging issues.

Over the recent weekend, several additional cases were addressed, with Nana Mensah reassuring families that “every case brought to the centre will be resolved.”

She also acknowledged ongoing efforts to address issues related to gender, unassigned placements, and residential status adjustments. Emphasizing patience, she assured parents and students that each candidate would receive a placement and that no one would be left behind.
