The staff of Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in Mampong, Eastern Region, have called on the Ghana Highway Authority to install speed humps in front of the hospital by November 15, 2024. This request comes after a series of fatal accidents at the location, claiming more than six lives between May and October 2024 due to the absence of traffic-calming measures.
The most recent accident involved a registered nurse struck by a speeding vehicle just after completing her shift. Hospital administrator Maxwell Larbi voiced frustration over the lack of response from authorities despite repeated appeals since 2020 for the provision of Speed Humps. Following the recent tragedy, officials reportedly reassured the hospital that they would engage the highway and road safety authorities to address the situation.
