In the early hours of Wednesday morning, former President Donald Trump made an electrifying return to the national stage, declaring victory in the 2024 presidential race. Minutes before, major news outlets had called the race in his favor.
“We made history for a reason tonight. We overcame obstacles that no one thought we could,” Trump told an enthusiastic crowd, marking what he called “the most incredible political achievement.”
A decisive moment came earlier when Fox News projected a win for Trump in Pennsylvania, the largest battleground state. This victory, along with wins in two other key states, made his path to the presidency unmistakable.
Supporters erupted into celebration, with one young attendee pushing to the front of the crowd to high-five others, shouting, “It’s real!” Trump was joined on stage by his family, including daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner, who had largely stayed away from the campaign. Thanking his supporters, Trump spoke of ushering in a “golden age” for the country.
The excitement in the room began hours before, around 11:25 pm, when North Carolina was called for Trump. For his supporters—many of whom had endured being labeled “deplorables” and “garbage” through years of political and legal battles—this moment felt like a validation, a sense of political redemption.
Earlier in the day, Trump stirred controversy with a post on his social platform, Truth Social, alleging “massive CHEATING” in Philadelphia without providing evidence. The claim echoed his 2020 accusations of election fraud in cities run by Democrats and raised concerns that Trump’s camp might challenge the results if they didn’t go in his favor.
Addressing reporters after casting his ballot on Tuesday, Trump insisted, “If I lose in a fair election, I’ll be the first to admit it.” His allies suggested he might declare victory on election night, even with millions of votes yet to be counted. But as results rolled in, any Democratic hopes that undecided voters would shift the outcome began to fade.
Roger Stone, a longtime ally and political provocateur, celebrated Trump’s comeback, calling it “a story of perseverance, resilience, and sheer grit.” Stone pointed to the criminal indictments Trump had faced, framing the win as a triumph of determination and unrelenting drive.
