Nearly 90,000 people applied to join Ghana’s security services, according to Interior Minister Henry Quartey, after the portals were closed on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. The Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, and Ghana Immigration Service had announced the recruitment drive on August 7, 2024, and many of the applicants had previously indicated their interest in joining these services in 2021.
Mr. Quartey gave journalists an update on the hiring process while emphasizing the tremendous response. Mr. Quartey did point out that there aren’t many vacancies open. A budget agreed by Parliament makes it possible to hire about 12,000 additional people for the security services. He underlined that in order to choose eligible applicants from the sizable pool, the agencies will have to strictly enforce their eligibility requirements.
