We’ll ensure Shalimar Abbiusi is duly compensated – Francis Sosu

Lawyers representing Shalimar Abbiusi, spokesperson for the New Force Movement, have vowed to enforce an ECOWAS court ruling ordering compensation from the Government of Ghana.

Ms. Abbiusi’s case stems from her arrest and deportation after being accused of using forged documents to secure a residence permit as a student at Ghana Christian University College. Although she was granted bail and the Ghana Immigration Service dropped all charges, she was rearrested and deported on December 20, 2023.

Her legal counsel, Francis-Xavier Sosu, expressed determination to ensure the court’s decision is upheld.

“We anticipate receiving the judgment by Monday, God willing, and we will promptly begin the enforcement process. This case is not just about the compensation but also about addressing the violation of her rights and the unresolved circumstances of her deportation,” Mr. Sosu stated.

He also raised concerns about the disruption caused by the deportation, particularly regarding Ms. Abbiusi’s personal assets.

“She had acquired certain assets, but their status remains uncertain due to the sudden nature of her deportation. Beyond the compensation, we aim to secure a resolution that allows her to recover her belongings and assets currently left in limbo,” he added.

The legal team hopes the court’s decision will set a precedent for upholding rights and ensuring accountability in similar cases.
