“We need to work hard to help reshape Ghana’s football” – Abedi Pele

Ghanaian football icon Abedi Pele has voiced his concerns over the declining state of football in the country, following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Stars ended their qualification campaign at the bottom of Group F, managing only three points and failing to secure a single win. This poor performance has sparked widespread criticism and reflection on the state of the nation’s football.

Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year and part of Ghana’s 1982 AFCON-winning squad, stressed the need for a collective effort to revive the sport. Speaking to the media, as reported by Panafricafootball, he acknowledged the gap between past successes and current struggles.

“Over time, things change, and we’re looking at a span of three decades,” Pele remarked. “Instead of dwelling on the past, we need to look forward, work hard, and focus on achieving our goals.”

A Call for Unity and Hard Work
The legendary midfielder highlighted the importance of organization and commitment as the foundation of success in football.

“To be a great football nation, you need hard work and a well-structured system. That’s how you get results. It’s not about looking back but putting your house in order and moving forward,” he said.

Pele also underscored football’s unique role in fostering national unity, urging stakeholders to prioritize rebuilding the sport for the collective good of the country.

“Football has the power to unite the country and bring people together,” he added.

As Ghana’s football community reflects on this setback, Pele’s words serve as a rallying call for renewed dedication and collaboration to restore the Black Stars to their former glory.
