Today, residents of Accra’s Ablekuma-Awoshie route protested about the continuous failure of traffic lights, causing a significant traffic gridlock. The activists barricaded the road with logs, stones, and other debris because they were angry at the government’s inaction, which caused serious delays for drivers and passengers.
The popular intersection’s traffic lights have been out for a few weeks, which has resulted in a lot of accidents and traffic jams. There have been multiple appeals and official demands for repairs, but the problem has not been remedied.
Vehicles were stranded in traffic jams for several hours as a result of the protest. The locals have promised to keep the road closed until the traffic lights are fixed, but the police have been called in to control the situation and remove the roadblock.
It is urged that commuters look for alternate routes in order to avoid the affected area.
